Thank you very much for your comment, David. Much appreciated. It’s sad to see the “urben legends” about Stein repeated everywhere like a chorus of sheep. People don’t know any better, alas.
I spoke at the American Literary Association last Saturday about the controversy, and nobody in the room had even heard about the crisis…
But the excellent Dossier by Charles Bernstein is a comfort and I will have a long analysis out in Tikkun any day.

I was so dismayed when I read that Stein was a “Vichy collaborator” in an article in the Gay and Lesbian Review. Thank you so much for your article in Trivia: Voices of Feminism, which clarifies the controversy so well.

Anyone who needs further evidence that Stein was not a Nazi sympathizer should read her novel “Mrs. Reynolds.” The entire book is one long denunciation of Hitler and of the Nazis.
